Announcing New Web Task Force Join a fun and engaging team in which you can learn new technology, enhance the capabilities and appeal of our church, and express your creativity! Our current website has served us well thanks to the dedication of several people, yet technology and expectations keep changing – and at Internet speed. Many of you have expressed a desire for enhancements which require changes in how we work with the website and the software that supports it, so we are launching a project to bring us up-to-date with current technology and in doing so create a more compelling and feature-rich experience for visitors, friends, and members when they go to www.cedarlane.org. The new Web Task Force will lead this effort. Its first tasks are to · canvas friends and members of Cedar Lane for website ideas and wishes and · investigate existing UU and other websites for ideas and potentially sharing technology and knowledge. The second stage of the project will · create a practical design that we can implement · select the software and web host to support the new design · implement the new website · support its use, maintenance, and growth If you can help with any of these tasks, send an email to it@cedarlane.org and you'll be invited to the project kickoff meeting. If you can't help with the tasks themselves but have ideas about presentation, content, or capabilities you would like to see in the website, please send them to it@cedarlane.org. Links to existing examples on the web and some explanation of your thinking will be helpful. Some of the ideas already floating around include · enabling committees and other groups like RE and AP classes to easily create and manage their own web pages · making blogs and discussion forums available · providing ways to more easily share documents and support collaborative work · multimedia support, for example putting MP3 files of the worship service and forum lectures on the web We are excited about expanding our web outreach and capability and eagerly look forward to hearing from you. |
