May Adult Programs Classes

Between planting spring flowers and cleaning the gutters, why not take a fun break with an Adults Programs Committee class. Here’s what’s starting in May:

May 3 (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.)
Dinner Discussion Express (#40B)
A potluck dinner with a lighthearted discussion of famous people – what animal or inanimate object do they most resemble. Coordinator is Donna Runyan (301-493-8463). Meets at the Chalice House. (no charge)

May 6 (Tuesday, 7:30-9 p.m.)
Can You Count on Your Vote Being Counted? (#12)
Montgomery County Board of Elections president Stan Statland takes you through the murky world of electronic voting. ($5/pledgers; $10/non-pledgers)

May 10 (Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
Catoctin Mountain Park Hike (#23)
A “fairly easy” hike on mountain trails, guided by APC member Ed Meyer. Bring a lunch and water and meet at Cedar Lane for a 50-mile carpool to Thurmont, Md., where the hike begins. ($5/pledgers; $10/non-pledgers)

May 17 (Saturday, 1-3 p.m.)
The National Herb Garden – Up Close and Personal
(#22)
Herb-extraordinaire Pat Kenny will guide you through the National Herb Garden. Meet at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. in front of the Administration Building next to the main parking lot. ($5/pledgers; $10/non-pledgers)

May 16 (Friday)
Kennedy Center Jazz Excursion (#21)
Dinner at the Kennedy Center Café at 5:45 p.m., followed by a Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival concert at 7. You pay for dinner; concert tickets are: $37/pledgers; $40/ non-pledgers.

Sign up for these classes by coming to the Religious Education Office or e-mailing Glenis Bellais (gbellais@cedarlane.org). Class size is limited so sign up soon.

Let It Shine Auction Clearance:         2008 Auction Catalog

Going once…going twice…one last auction deal remains

Looking for a bargain late summer beach get-away, after the crowds have gone home? For just $500, you can spend a week in Hilton Head, Sept. 6-13, in a lovely two-bedroom, full kitchen villa (maximum occupancy 6) at Marriott Sunset Pointe at Shelter Cove Resort, with full resort amenities. This would be an ideal place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, meet up with family and friends, or just unwind. For photos and resort info, go to: http://www.vacationclub.com/resorts/su/default.jsp.

At $500, this $1,800 value is a real steal! This won’t last, so don’t hesitate - contact Sara Deshler now: 301-493-8300, sdeshler@cedarlane.org.

Talk to the Board! The Board of Trustees has two new mailboxes to expand opportunities to hear from the congregation. The first is an e-mail address at board@cedarlane.org. The second is a mailbox among those in the office’s reception area. Whether via the Internet or in writing, the Board would love to hear from you. Of course, nothing replaces a conversation, so please stop by the reception desk after either Sunday service. A Board member is there to help with various activities, and to make it easy to find a trustee. A new way to find a Board member on Sunday morning is to look for a name badge printed on bright yellow paper.

Cedar Lane now has an E-list! Sign up!
Please go to www.cedarlane.org/cgi-bin/majorcool.cgi to subscribe. Enter your e-mail address on the Browse web page, select the "All" button, and click on "Go."
