Being Gentle With Ourselves

Dear Child of the Universe,

"I will be gentle with myself, I will love myself, I'm a child of the universe being born each moment."

This simple chant comes to mind often as I journey toward wholeness, stumble, and try again. I often play the heartbeat on my chest or on a drum while I sing the words so I remember the life force that sustains me. After a few moments of musical meditation, I might ask myself some questions to help center myself: How are my expectations of myself fair or unfair? Where do I fall on a list of things I love? Am I being gentle with myself? Am I ready to begin again in a spirit of love and compassion? Compared to the ancient immensity of the Universe, I am only a child, always learning, always growing, always beginning. So are you, dear ones! Be gentle with yourselves along the way.
