Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church is deeply honored to welcome Bishop Rev. Dr. William Barber II, Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival and President and Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach.

Almost five months in sanctuary separated from her US citizen children, including her youngest with Down Syndrome, Doña Rosa Gutierrez Lopez continues to await due process to reclaim her life and be reunited with her children. Rosa has courageously chosen to put her children before her own comfort. Knowing the danger that would await her and her children if she were deported to El Salvador, Rosa continues to hope for justice to be served.

To support her at this critical juncture, the Rev. Dr. William Barber II has offered to meet and pray with her and Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church where she is currently residing. Bishop Barber will share a public statement of support at a press conference at 1 PM.

The Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II is the President & Sr. Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival; Bishop with the College of Affirming Bishops and Faith Leaders; Visiting Professor at Union Theological Seminary; Pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and the author of three books: Revive Us Again: Vision and Action in Moral Organizing; The Third Reconstruction: Moral Mondays, Fusion Politics, and The Rise of a New Justice Movement; and Forward Together: A Moral Message For The Nation. He has been called to speak at the Democratic National Convention (2016), and has served as president of the North Carolina NAACP (2006-2017), and currently serves on the National NAACP Board of Directors. Bishop Barber is also one of the recipients of the 2018 MacArthur Foundation’s Genius Grant.
