Join us for a potluck, film, and discussion! We will begin with a potluck meal and conclude with a discussion moderated by Rev. Archene Turner, Cedar Lane's Community Minister. Please bring food to share. Vegan dishes are encouraged, in support of Cedar Lane's Green Sanctuary commitment. Please provide a note listing the ingredients of your dish to aid people with food allergies or limitations. Love offerings will be gratefully received.
The Hate U Give is based on Angie Thomas' award-winning book about Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg), a black teen who is constantly switching between two worlds -- the poor, mostly black neighborhood where she lives and the wealthy, mostly white prep school that she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered by police violence. Facing pressure from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and decide to stand up for what's right. It is a family friendly event, and rates 5 * on positive messages, role models and representatives, best for age 14 + and adults.
