Norman Allen is a student at Wesley Theological Seminary here in Washington, DC. He is also a professional writer whose essays have appeared on websites for OnBeing, OnFaith, and Tikkun, and in the pages of the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, and Smithsonian, Washingtonian and Yes! magazines. As a playwright, Norman has seen his work commissioned and produced locally by the Shakespeare Theatre Company, the Kennedy Center, the Olney Theatre Center, and Signature Theatre; and internationally in Prague, Ljubljana, Seoul, Tokyo, Cape Town, and Budapest. His plays In The Garden and Nijinsky's Last Dance were honored with Helen Hayes Awards. A former high school English teacher, Norman worked with the Center for Inspired Teaching as a teacher's coach and founded the Signature in the Schools theatre education program. He spent this summer as a Chaplain Intern at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He, his partner Gary, and their son Isaac share their DC home with two loving pups, who remind them daily of the power and comfort that comes with unconditional love.
